Flat Feet

The inside of the foot should have an “archs". When standing, the arch of the foot might be diminished, but it will not disappear.

Normal feet are supported by three arches: medial longitudinal arch, lateral longitudinal arch and transverse arch. The main function is to bear the weight of the whole body, produce the effect of unloading force, and reduce the pressure on the foot joints.

However, if the foot lacks arch support, this phenomenon is called “flat feet." When the patient walks a lot or stands for a long time, foot soreness may occur.

Internal Foot Rotation

The internal rotation of the foot looks like a flat foot when standing, and there is no arch.

But the biggest difference with flat feet is that when lying down or sitting down, normal foot arch occurs. When walking, the center of gravity of the body will shift inward, causing the second and third toes and the metacarpal bones to compress and produce thick foot callus.

The joints of the foot are loose, and the inner muscles and ligaments of the foot are under pressure, which can cause foot inflammation or pain.

External rotation foot

The externally rotated foot is high arch when standing, and the normal foot shape is restored when sitting down.

The footrest appears on the last toes and the outside of the sole of the foot.

The joints of the feet are very tight, which makes the feet lack of elasticity, and symptoms of ankle sprains or muscle strains often appear.

The abnormal foot shape has a profound effect

An abnormal foot shape can affect other tissue in the lower limbs and cause inflammation of the feet. Some people can cause knee pain, toe deformation, calf pain, low back pain, etc.

In terms of treatment, if you take anti-inflammatory or painkillers, it will temporarily improve, because the foot problem is not corrected, the chance of suffering from foot pain will increase greatly.

Improve foot problems

In order to improve the problem of foot problems, beside treating the affected area, it is also necessary to instruct the patient to do stretch exercises and muscle training. In addition, orthotic ( shoe insoles) should be customized according to the condition of the patient’s foot.

The main function of the custom-made orthotic is to correct the deviation of the root and forefoot. Orthotic can be divided into two categories, functional or correction.

Functionally, it is mainly used to correct the movement of the feet and provide adequate foot support.

The correction orthotic is mainly used to correct patients with less joint range of motion and severe foot deformity.
