Cerebrovascular Aneurysm

Cerebral vascular aneurysms have always been regarded as silent killers. They are quietly buried deep in the blood vessels at the base of the skull. They have no obvious symptoms but can cause sudden death. Many patients have acute strokes or severe headaches due to blasting and bleeding of cerebrovascular aneurysms.

Rupture of aneurysm, cause sudden death

Aneurysms can occur in the artery, but the most common places are the intracerebral arteries and aorta. Common cerebral hemangioma sites include anterior cerebral artery (30-35%), internal carotid artery and posterior cerebral artery (30-35%), middle cerebral artery (20%), basilar artery, posterior circulation artery (5%).

Cerebrovascular aneurysm is a cerebrovascular disease. When the blood pressure reduces the elastic layer of the blood vessel wall, then weakened blood vessel wall, forming a cerebral aneurysm. Cerebral vessel bifurcations are generally weak, and cerebrovascular aneurysms are also occur in here. The swollen blood vessel wall of cerebral angioma is relatively weak and easy to rupture, which can cause hemorrhagic stroke and trigger other emergencies. It is the most deadly type of stroke, with a mortality rate as high as 36%.

Once a cerebrovascular aneurysm ruptures, 20-30% of the patients died before arriving to the hospital. If a ruptured cerebral hemangioma is not treated in time, the chance of bursting again within six months will account for 40%, and the mortality rate will be as high as 70%. In Hong Kong, there are about five cases for every 100,000 people, mainly middle-aged people, and the ratio of male to female is 1:2. Smoking, high blood pressure, and cerebral artery injuries are more common. If an aneurysm ruptures, it can kill people in a second. You may have heard of people you know die suddenly because of a ruptured aneurysm. The most fatal of this disease is that the patient does not necessarily have symptoms, until the aneurysm ruptures and causes intracerebral hemorrhage and cause sudden death.

The operation process is like a bomb disposal plot

In recent years, the medical profession has used similar cerebrovascular surgeries to enter the right cerebral aorta from the femoral artery of the thigh and place a tiny pipe stent (Pipeline Stent) at the position of the vascular aneurysm, blocking the blood flow into the blood vessel, but will reoccur after 6 months. Patient need to take anticoagulant for a period of time after operation to prevent blood vessel embolism.

For acute bleeding from cerebral aneurysm, the patient may need to undergo emergency Aneurysm Clipping. Titanium clamps are used to clamp the ruptured aneurysm. To avoiding the consequences of 60% mortality and 90% permanent severe disability.

Cerebral vascular aneurysm rupture does pose a great threat to life. Most of the cerebral aneurysms have very few obvious symptoms. In recent years, more and more people are undergoing examinations such as magnetic resonance (MRI) and computer scanning (CT) to  be diagnosed with a cerebral aneurysm.

Keeping blood vessels healthy is the first priority

Because this disease is not easy to be detected, early prevention and timely diagnosis and treatment are even more important. Healthy living habits can keep blood vessels healthy. Maintaining a low-fat diet and regular exercise can reduce the blood cholesterol index, thereby reducing the chance of atherosclerosis. If cerebrovascular aneurysms can be detected early, and appropriate monitoring and treatment can be avoided. The sudden rupture of cerebral vascular aneurysm can cause sudden life threats.
