Discogenic Pain can cause long-term low back pain, often with leg numbness or tightness, similar to sciatica. These pains usually occur in younger groups in their 20s and 30s , rather than occur in the elderly.

Case study

Patients with lower back pain often have done a lot of treatment, or some muscle relaxation treatments, and even non-stop exercise to strengthen their abdominal muscle and psoas muscles, but it seems that they cannot improve low back pain, and even taking MRI scanning, no disc herniation or protrusion occur. The sign and symptom is when they prolong sitting, such as sitting in the office for a long hours working, they feel that their lower back is very tight, and they need to bend over to stand up. Usually sneezing, coughing or bending down it will trigger the lower back pain, even if the condition improves after stretching, but then the symptoms reoccur again. The following is an MRI image of a patient in his 20s.

Five exercises to relieve discogenic pain

Exercise 1

When exhaling, put feet together, drop both feet sideways, the bottom of the foot will be slightly off the ground, the shoulders must be laying flat, hold for about 20 seconds then put the feet return to the middle.

Exercise 2

When exhaling,  bending leg to the other side, the feet can be pressed down as much as possible, hold for about 20 seconds, and the feet return to the middle when inhaling.

Exercise 3

Use the strength of the back to raise the upper body when exhaling, the abdomen is slightly retracted, the eyes look ahead, do not lower your head so as not to increase the pressure on the neck, slowly lower the upper body when inhaling, and repeat 5 to 10 times.

Exercise 4

The upper body maintains a natural curvature during inhalation, the head is bent upwards until the lower back is slightly curved upwards and the abdomen must be tightened during the back extension. This action can be done from 5 times and slowly increases to 10 -15 times

Exercise 5

Prolong sitting will cause the lower back ache. Find a table, the whole body move to the edge of the table, holding the table with both hands, feet perpendicular to the floor, and then let the body sinking down by using the gravity

Lumbar disc herniation is one of the common causes of low back and leg pain, and its main symptoms are low back pain and lower extremity pain. The intervertebral disc is composed of water and collagen, and the intervertebral disc surrounding with water and collagen to provide the structural support to the intervertebral disc, so it is necessary to increase the intake of water and collagen.
