Case Analysis

Nocturia refers to children’s bedwetting habit at night when they are five or six years old, and these children are not suffering from urinary system problems. The cause may be familial inheritance, or it may be due to insufficient secretion of antidiuretic hormone (hormone). Small functional bladder capacity in children is also one of the factors. Most of the treatments use medication and behavioral therapy.

Among them, drug therapy generally uses antidiuretic hormone drugs before going to bed to reduce the kidney’s production of urine. The patient needs to take the drug for three to six months to observe the progress. At the same time, it is also recommended that children choose “enuresis sensor". When the child wets the bed, the urine will make a sound when it touches the sensor to wake the child to go to the toilet. The above treatment methods are commonly used, but their effectiveness varies from person to person. In the case of the above case, the child did not get much better with the help of sensors. At the same time, with the growth of the childhood, the psychological pressure increased greatly, which made weakened his self-confidence and impaired his self-esteem. Even during a camping trip at the school Lok did not dare to go to bed at night, for fear of being teased by his classmates. The family members were very worried about his situation and looked for treatments.

The urination function of the bladder is controlled by a complex nervous system, which requires the coordination of “sympathetic nerve" and “parasympathetic nerve" to complete the entire urination process. These complex nerve areas are located at the twelfth section of the thoracic nerve to the second section of the lumbar nerve (T12-L2) and the second section to the fourth section of the sacral nerve (S2-S4). If they are compressed or disordered, they may affect the function of controlling urination.

Inspection of Lok’s spine revealed that he had a slight scoliosis, his lower back was stiff. After several months of lumbar treatment, Lok’s symptoms of bedwetting per day have been reduced to twice per week, and the frequency of bedwetting has been reduced to about once a month. The situation has been greatly improved.

In addition to chiropractic treatment, children’s wrong postures should be corrected, low back strengthening exercises and pelvic muscle exercises before going to bed should be performed.

Pelvis Muscle Exercise

This exercise can help improve bladder problems and actively contract pelvic muscles. Hold and stop the flow of urine during urination. This means that the pelvic muscles are contracting. This method is to help find the pelvic muscles, which should not be practiced frequently in urination. The second method for pelvic muscles is to contract the anus and then relax it. This exercise can be done three times a day, each time for ten to fifteen times, the number of seconds of contraction starts from three seconds, and when you are proficient, you can perform contraction seconds to five to eight seconds each time.
Pay attention to these points when exercising:

  1. Empty the bladder first
  2. Not suitable to exercise after a meal
  3. Try not to contract the muscles of the legs, abdomen and buttocks
  4. Actions must be correct and done carefully every time
