Radiofrequency treatment for trigeminal neuralgia, neck and low back pain

Case Sharing 1:

Mr. C is a 66-year-old computer engineer. He has suffered from trigeminal neuralgia on the right cheek for more than 3 years. Medications can be used to effectively relieve pain at first, but the pain symptoms reoccur every few months to a year.  Relapsed condition and painfulness showed signs of deterioration over the years. Mr. Chen was in depression, unable to sleep for three days, and feeling miserable. MRI showed that the trigeminal nerve of the right side brainstem was compressed by the tiny arterial vascular which caused trigeminal neuralgia. Mr. Chen is not considered minimally invasive surgery to decompress the nerve roots. After long discussing with him and providing other medical options, he has chosen “Pulsed Radiofrequency" treatment.  Under local anesthesia, the doctor used X-ray guilding to perform radiofrequency treatment for Mr. Chen’s trigeminal nerve. It only took about half an hour to do this procedure. After the procedure, Mr. Chen’s nerve pain disappeared immediately. He immediately felt his whole body relaxed, showing a smile and regaining his usual chatty, then he went home rest on the same day receiving the treatment. Without the torture of nerve pain, Mr. Chen enjoyed the long-lost quality sleep that night and slept peacefully until dawn.

Case Sharing 2:

30-year-old Miss Liang is a clerk. For more than three years, she has suffered from numbness in her neck, left shoulder, and upper left arm. She tried Chinese and Western medicine, chiropractors, physical therapy traction, or other medical treatments still cannot help her. Ms. Liang’s condition has deteriorated recently. The severe pain is stabbing. Once she touches the skin, it induces pain and she cannot move at all. MRI showed that her C 5, 6, and C6,7  has herniated discs, compressing the nerve roots, causing cervical neuralgia. After discussing with the doctor, Ms. Liang received cervical spine nerve root “pulsating radiofrequency electromagnetic wave therapy" under local anesthesia. After the treatment, her nerve pain disappeared and she moved freely. She was able to go home to rest the same day and continue to work the next morning. .

Case Sharing 3:

58-year-old Mrs. Wong is a housewife. She suffered from lower back pain and numbness and pain in her right foot. The symptoms lasted for more than 4 months, it was diagnosed by MRI as the lumbar disc herniation in the L4,5, which caused the nerve root to compress and produce sciatica. After discussing the medical plan with the doctor, Mrs. Wong received radiofrequency treatment. After the treatment, the pain disappeared by 90%, and she showed her smile which I hadn’t seen for a long time, she walked home on her own that night.

What is radiofrequency treatment?

Neck pain, back pain, trigeminal nerve pain,  sciatica are all patient symptoms that neurosurgeons come in contact with daily cases. When all the conservative treatment options are not effective, the doctor will recommend the use of “pulsating radio frequency electromagnetic waves" for treatment to relieve the patient’s pain. “Pulsating radio frequency electromagnetic wave" is a low-invasive, safe analgesic treatment procedure. The radio frequency electromagnetic wave is intermittent, and there are two 20msec periodic electromagnetic waves released every second, and the electromagnetic range is generated in an intermittent manner. Without damaging the nerves or causing pathological changes, radio frequency electromagnetic waves will produce heat with a temperature of 42 degrees Celsius, which will only selectively affect the nerve endings responsible for the transmission of pain signals, so that the information transmitted by the pain symptoms can be obtained. Pain free can last up to 12 to 18 months. More than 90% of neuropathic pain patients respond well to radiofrequency treatment, and the pain symptoms have subsided or disappeared completely. During the painless  period of 12 to 18 months after receiving radiofrequency treatment, patients can reduce or stop taking painkillers and enjoy having a normal life without pain. After that, the patient can continue to receive other conservative treatment options, or slowly consider whether to accept radical minimally invasive surgery in the future.
