Case Sharing of Severe Osteoporosis

78-year-old mother-in-law Zheng has suffered from low back pain for many years. In January 2011, the patient had a sudden severe pain in the lower back and it was difficult to walk. After X-rays, it was found that the thoracic spine from the 11th to the 5th lumbar spine was not only severely degenerated, but also in the thoracic spine. The T12 and the L1 suffered severely compressed fractures and pressed against the nerves. After the doctor’s diagnosis, they believed that the “vertebroplasty" procedure must be performed immediately to support the fragile spine.
Two weeks after the operation, the condition did not improve much, and an X-ray examination was performed, and found that there were many subsidences in the first section of the lumbar spine, so she decided to have a second bone cement operation.

After the operation, Zheng’s mother-in-law received some rehabilitation physical therapy, and her condition gradually eased. In May of this year, her low back pain reappeared, and this time it was more serious than before. The left foot was numb and weak, the left thigh was painful like a knife cut, the pubic bone was painful, and there was frequent urgency and sometimes difficulty in urination.

The patient was immediately rushed to the emergency department. The doctor diagnosed that due to severe osteoporosis degeneration, the lumbar spine collapsed again and pressed against the nerve. Basically, she could no longer receive any treatment. And could only take medicine to relieve pain and use a urine drainage bag.
The mood of the family and the patient is indeed extremely depressed They also understand that bone degeneration cannot be recovered, but the patient really hopes that some treatments can relieve her foot pain and foot numbness.

After 21 times of decompression therapy, the patient’s left foot can gradually exert a little strength, and can lift the leg to walk a little, and the foot pain and foot numbness have gradually improved. Although the patient’s condition is much better now than when she first came, including positive changes in mood and condition, she can now urinate without intubating for a day, however, she must observe two or three months more before she can try to pull intubation to test the urination function.
This is a case of severe osteoporosis, especially to share with readers,I hope to remind everyone of the importance of preventing osteoporosis.

The best way to prevent Osteoporosis is to check early

Since early osteoporosis has no special symptoms, many patients usually find severe osteoporosis  when a fracture occurs, and it is too late to recover. Prevention is better than cure, and the best way to prevent osteoporosis is to check early. Through the X ray DEXA or high-density ultrasound bone density test, the doctor can understand the patient’s health, physique, condition and cause through the degree of osteoporosis of the patient and the affected part to prescribe the right medicine and make treatment recommendations.
